Insurance Accommodation · Sutherland Shire
Serviced apartment, or a whole house for your family?
When your home is being repaired, insurers often place families in a serviced apartment or hotel — a Quest or a Rydges, say, around Cronulla or Woolooware Bay. For a night or two, that’s fine. For the weeks or months a real repair takes, with kids and a pet, a one-bedroom unit is a hard place to live.
We offer the other option: a furnished, pet-friendly whole home across the Sutherland Shire — working directly with you or your insurer.
Serviced apartment vs a whole home
The honest, side-by-side difference for a family staying through an insurance claim.
| Serviced apartment / hotel | A whole home with us | |
|---|---|---|
| Space | Studio to 2-bedroom unit | 4–5 bedroom family house |
| Bedrooms for the kids | Often shared or sofa beds | A room each |
| Kitchen | Kitchenette | Full kitchen |
| Laundry | Shared or paid | Private laundry |
| Pets | Frequently not accepted | Welcome in most of our homes |
| Outdoor space | None — a balcony at best | Private yard, often a pool |
| Neighbours | Shared corridors and lifts | A home of your own |
| Parking | Limited or paid | Private, off-street |
| Best suited to | A few nights; business travel | Weeks to months while repairs run |
Serviced apartments and hotels vary — always check the specific property. The comparison above reflects the typical differences between a hotel-style apartment and a whole home.
Why families choose a house
You can keep your pet. Most serviced apartments and hotels can’t take animals, so a claim can force a family to choose between their accommodation and their dog. Most of our homes are pet-friendly, with enclosed yards — so nobody gets left behind.
There’s room to be a family. A whole house means the kids have their own rooms, a yard to play in, a real kitchen for family meals, and your own front door — not a shared lift and a corridor. During an already-stressful time, that normality matters.
It’s built for a longer stay. Repairs and rebuilds run for weeks or months, not nights. Our homes and our whole approach are set up for that, including help with extensions when the timeline slips.
Families we’ve helped
Real reviews from families we’ve hosted through insurance claims.
"Our family, including our small dog, stayed in a beautiful waterfront property provided by Boutique Property Hosts while repairs were carried out on our home due to flood damage. The Boutique team were incredibly caring and helpful throughout the process. Their guidance in dealing with our insurer and their builders made all the difference, especially when they were reluctant to address certain issues with the repairs. The team's knowledge and experience with insurance claims were invaluable, and they assisted us with multiple extensions of time on our temporary accommodation, often at short notice. They checked in frequently to ensure everything was going smoothly and helped make a stressful situation much easier for us. I highly recommend Boutique Property Hosts for their professionalism, accommodation, and expertise."
"Our stay with Boutique Property Host were exceptional. From the moment we engaged with team at Boutique, the communication was prompt and friendly, making the entire process seamless. The house was clean, well maintained, and thoughtfully furnished with all the amenities we needed for a luxury and comfortable stay. Highly recommend! Thank you!"
"The team at Boutique Property Hosts supported us with beautiful accommodation and a helping hand during a very difficult time following a house fire. We always felt Boutique had the interests of our family of 5 + dog at the centre and we will be forever grateful to them for providing compassionate and knowledgeable direction in finding the best solution for our family. We highly recommend Boutique to provide the right kind of accommodation and advice in what can be some of the most difficult times in life. A true beacon of integrity."

A family of three and their dog, flooded out of their home, housed in a whole home in Woolooware — not a serviced apartment.
Common questions
Can I get a house instead of a serviced apartment on my insurance claim?
Often, yes. Your policy covers temporary accommodation appropriate to your household. If a serviced apartment can’t fit your family, or won’t take your pet, a whole home can be a reasonable request — and we can talk to your insurer or their booking agent directly about arranging it.
Are pets allowed?
In most of our homes, yes. Serviced apartments and hotels frequently can’t accommodate pets, which is one of the main reasons families come to us rather than splitting up their household during a claim.
How long can we stay?
Our homes suit stays from a few weeks to several months — the typical length of an insurance repair or rebuild — rather than the short, nightly stays serviced apartments are built around. We also help arrange extensions when repairs run over, which they often do.
